Chapter 8 week 4 blog
Some people are forced to retire because of age discrimination or because of illness others must continue to work, often at menial jobs, because they cannot afford to retire, depending on what ye of job your on there is a demand for you to work, and you are allow to stay, if not, you are encouraged to retire it can be stressful. I would have to say that retiring can be a fearful move to make, because of the unknown and not fully being in control of your income. I have notice at my job a lot of people are forced to retire because of the amount of money they make so they find the smallest issue for them to retire and then they are replaced with a younger person at smaller wages the social definition of retirement has changed in the past few decades for Atchley (1976) retirement is an event that occurs when a person definitively stops working and withdraws from the formal labor market. Social scientists have since pointed out that some people withdraw from the formal labor market because the lack the health to continue working or because of age related disabilities or because they have because unemployed and are unable to find anew job. Over the course of years that I have been on my job,I have watch people who retired on their own come back after a couple of years. I asked then why did they come back and their answer were all the same which was lack of income. On the other retire doesn't have to always be a negative experience. Some American businesses have begun to question the policy of encouraging workers to retire at or before age 62 the labor pool of young workers is declining and they sometimes cost as much to train as to retain the older workers ( Cyr 1996) the value of work differs by cohort and some executive ethic than do younger workers. Some of these companies have introduced late retirement incentive program (LRIPs) although the 1967 age discrimination in employment act ( amended in 1974 and 1978) pro habits job discrimination of older worker it still exists. Example job search. The labor marketing make. Finding work more difficult and changing fields if a older person feel that they have been denied employment or have been let go because of their age can take steps to get their job back or to receive compensation by making a formal written Chang of discrimination against the department of labor
