There is currently a debate going on as to how long a human being can live. Humans are said to be capable of living up to one hundred and twenty years (Hillier, Barrow pg92). Genetisists state that the human body is not capable of living forever. In comparison the average tortoise can live up to one hundred and fifty, a domesticated cat around thirty years. This was a interesting point that the human body has such a capability to live such a long life, and if able to live to be one hundred and twenty what kind of life would that be? Chapter four has made me so much more aware than before about how important it is to maintain a active and healthy life style; because my actions today affect me down the line.
Doctors recommend eating a healthy diet of mainly fruits and vegetables, with some meat. Enjoying the company of those you love and care for is just as important because it effects your mental well being. I have seen this with my grandmother growing up, she retired not long after I was born and even though she was in her sixties she travelled the country with friends and family and until recently with her health declining has remained extremely active, she will be eighty three this year. I truly hope to be able to go and do the things like she has done up until the very end. I know that if I exercise, eat right and remain active in daily activities that I enjoy I should be able to do this.
No person is the same and each one of us will have a different life span. The average life span in the 180 was around 50 now the legal definition of old refers to someone who has reached their retirement age. Like the book explains, the key to longevity is exercise, a healthy diet and mental heal. I agree that that it is healthy to eat a diet consisting of fruits, vegetable and some meats. However, I think that individuals should have a balanced diet and get all of the food groups necessary to remain healthy. Every person is different and will go through things in life that affects aging. For example, chronic conditions can have a major impact on young adults and adults and make them age faster than normal due to their condition. Some chronic conditions include heart problems, diabetes, cancer and other serious health problems.
